The short version
- We collect what we need to build and adapt your training plan: your profile, your runs, your races and your shoes.
- Some of it is health information (like heart rate, weight and injuries). We only use it with your consent, and only to coach you.
- We never sell your information and never use it for advertising.
- Your data is stored in Frankfurt, Germany, with Supabase.
- You can see and change your data in the app, ask us for a copy, and delete your account at any time. Deleting your account deletes everything.
1. Who we are
PaceMe is a running coach app and website (paceme.co.za). It is run by Richard-James Dixon, a sole proprietor in South Africa, trading as PaceMe ("PaceMe", "we", "us"). We are the responsible party for your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
Address: PO Box 159, Durbanville, 7551
Email: hello@paceme.co.za
Our Information Officer is Richard-James Dixon, reachable at the same email address.
2. What we collect
| What | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account details | Name, email address, password (stored encrypted by our login provider; we never see it) | To create your account and sign you in |
| Training profile | Goal race, race date and distance, goal time, recent race times, weekly distance, run days, long-run day, rest days, experience level, strength training preferences and equipment | To build your plan and your pace zones |
| Health information | Age, weight, resting and maximum heart rate, injury history and concerns, heart rate and effort on each run, notes you write about how a run felt | To set safe training loads and heart rate zones, and to adjust your plan |
| Training log | Date, type, distance, time, pace, elevation, shoes used, notes | To track your progress and adapt your plan |
| Races and shoes | Races you add and their results, the shoes you own and the distance on each pair | Race planning and shoe tracking |
| Plan changes | Sessions you move, skip, add or edit | So your plan stays the way you set it on every device |
| Reminder settings | Which reminders you want and when | To schedule reminders on your phone. These stay on your phone. |
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos or advertising identifiers. The app does not use tracking cookies, and the website only stores what is needed to keep you signed in.
Apple Health
If you choose to connect Apple Health (coming soon), PaceMe will read the workouts and related data you allow, such as distance, duration, pace, heart rate and elevation, so your runs log themselves. You choose exactly what to share in the Health app and can turn it off at any time. Information from Apple Health is only used to log your training and adapt your plan. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, never shared with data brokers, and never stored in iCloud by us.
3. Your consent to health information
Under POPIA, health information is special personal information. We only process it because you give us your explicit consent when you create your account. You can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting the health details in Settings or by deleting your account. Without some of it (for example your heart rate or injury history), PaceMe will still work, but your plan will be less personal.
4. How we use your information
- To build, show and adapt your training plan, pace zones and heart rate zones.
- To show your progress, milestones and insights.
- To sync your data between the app and the website.
- To send emails you need, like confirming your account or resetting your password.
- To answer you when you contact us.
- To keep PaceMe secure and fix problems.
We do not make automated decisions about you that have legal or similar effects. Your plan is worked out automatically from your answers, but you can always change it.
5. Who we share it with
We never sell your information. We only share it with service providers (operators) that help us run PaceMe, under written agreements that require them to keep it safe and only use it for us:
| Provider | What they do | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database and sign-in | Frankfurt, Germany |
| Resend | Sends account emails (confirmation, password reset) | United States |
| Cloudflare | Hosts the paceme.co.za website | Global network |
| Apple | App Store, and Apple Health if you connect it | United States |
Before we add other providers (for example crash reporting, product analytics or payments), we will update this policy and tell you in the app. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
6. Sending information outside South Africa
Your data is stored in the European Union, which has data protection laws that give at least the same protection as POPIA. Where a provider is in another country, we rely on their contractual commitments to protect your information to a POPIA standard, and on your consent.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, your profile, training log, races, shoes and plan changes are deleted straight away. Copies in our provider's backups are overwritten within 30 days. If you stop using PaceMe without deleting your account, we may delete inactive accounts after 2 years, with an email warning first.
8. How we keep it safe
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Each person can only reach their own data: our database checks this on every request. Only the PaceMe owner has administrative access, and only to fix problems you report. If a breach affects your information, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
9. Your rights
Under POPIA you can:
- Ask what information we hold about you and get a copy.
- Correct it (most of it you can edit yourself in Settings).
- Ask us to delete it. You can delete your account yourself in the app: You, then Delete my account.
- Object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent.
- Complain to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.
Email hello@paceme.co.za for anything you can't do in the app. We reply within 30 days.
10. Children
PaceMe is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe a child has signed up, email us and we will delete the account.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
